private marrakech 3 days desert tour Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Skoura Oasis → Dades Valley

Your 3-day desert adventure begins in the morning with a pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. You will leave the city behind and drive toward the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass at around 2,260 meters above sea level.

Along the way, we will make several stops at scenic viewpoints where you can enjoy the mountain landscapes, take photographs, and see traditional Amazigh villages built into the mountains.

The drive itself is part of the experience, with changing scenery from the busy streets of Marrakech to green valleys, rocky mountains, and small villages. After crossing the Atlas Mountains, you will continue toward the historic village of Aït Ben Haddou. This beautiful fortified ksar is one of Morocco’s most famous landmarks and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You will have time to walk through its narrow streets, discover the traditional earthen buildings, and enjoy the panoramic views from the higher part of the village.

After the visit, we continue to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara. Here you can stop for lunch and, depending on the available time, visit the famous Kasbah Taourirt or enjoy a short visit around the city.In the afternoon, the journey continues through the beautiful landscapes of southern Morocco.

You will pass through the Skoura palm oasis and the Valley of Roses, an area known for its rose fields and traditional villages. We then continue toward the Dades Valley, where the scenery becomes more dramatic with red rock formations, green palm trees, and winding roads through the mountains.

Before reaching your accommodation, we can stop at some of the most beautiful viewpoints in the valley, including the famous winding road overlooking the Dades Gorge. In the evening, you will check into your hotel or traditional kasbah, enjoy a Moroccan dinner, and spend the night in the Dades Valley.

Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, you will continue your journey through the fascinating landscapes of the eastern part of Morocco. We leave the Dades Valley and drive toward Tinghir, a beautiful oasis surrounded by mountains and palm groves. From there, we continue to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where enormous limestone cliffs rise on both sides of the valley.

You will have time to walk through the gorge, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, take photographs, and experience one of the most impressive natural landscapes in southern Morocco.

After visiting Todra Gorges, we continue toward Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils, dates, and traditional desert products. Along the way, you will see the landscape gradually change from mountain valleys to the dry, rocky scenery of the pre-Sahara. We then continue to Rissani, an important historic town and former trading center.

If the timing allows, you can explore part of the local market and see traditional Moroccan life before continuing toward Merzouga. As we approach Merzouga, you will get your first views of the spectacular golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. In the afternoon, you will begin your camel experience, riding through the dunes while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara.

You will stop in the dunes to watch the sunset and take photographs before continuing to your desert camp. Once at the camp, you will have time to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

In the evening, a traditional Moroccan dinner will be served, followed by Amazigh music around the campfire. You can spend the rest of the evening enjoying the silence of the desert and looking at the stars before spending the night in your desert camp.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert → Rissani → Alnif → Agdz → Ouarzazate Marrakech

Your final day begins early, giving you the opportunity to wake up before sunrise and watch the first light appear over the Erg Chebbi dunes. This is one of the most memorable moments of the journey, as the color of the sand changes with the rising sun.

After sunrise, you will return to the camp for breakfast and some time to relax before leaving the desert. Depending on the arrangement, you can return from the camp by camel or 4x4.We then begin the long but scenic journey back toward Marrakech.

Rather than simply returning along the same road, the route can take you through different landscapes, including Alnif, N’Kob, and the spectacular Draa Valley.

The Draa Valley is famous for its huge palm groves, ancient kasbahs, traditional villages, and beautiful oasis landscapes. We will make stops along the way where possible so you can take photographs and enjoy the scenery, with time for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we continue toward Ouarzazate and then begin the final crossing of the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass.

You will once again have the chance to enjoy the mountain scenery and make stops along the way. After crossing the mountains, we continue toward Marrakech, arriving in the evening. You will then be dropped off at your hotel or riad, bringing your 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert adventure to an end.
