7 days desert tour from casablanca Itinerary

Day 1: Casablanca → Rabat → Chefchaouen

Your 7-day Morocco adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or Casablanca airport. We leave Casablanca and travel north, passing near Rabat, Morocco’s capital city, before continuing through the beautiful countryside toward the Rif Mountains.

As the landscape changes from the Atlantic plains to the green hills of northern Morocco, the journey becomes increasingly scenic. After several hours of driving, we arrive in Chefchaouen, the famous Blue City, known for its charming blue-washed buildings and peaceful mountain setting. After checking into your hotel or riad, you will have free time to explore the old medina at your own pace.

Wander through the narrow blue-painted streets, discover small local shops and artisan workshops, and visit Plaza Uta el-Hammam, the lively main square surrounded by cafés and restaurants.

If time permits, you can also walk to the Spanish Mosque viewpoint to enjoy beautiful panoramic views over Chefchaouen and the surrounding Rif Mountains at sunset. You will spend the night in a traditional riad or hotel in Chefchaouen.

Day 2: Chefchaouen → Fes

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning in Chefchaouen before continuing to Fes. This is a great opportunity to explore more of the blue medina, visit the historic Kasbah Museum, stroll around Plaza Uta el-Hammam, and take photographs of the beautiful winding alleyways.

You can also browse the local shops for traditional handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Around midday or early afternoon, meet your driver and depart Chefchaouen for Fes. The journey takes you through the scenic countryside of northern Morocco, with views of rolling hills, agricultural land, and traditional villages along the way.

We arrive in Fes in the late afternoon or early evening and check into your riad or hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a relaxing evening exploring the area around your accommodation or experience your first traditional Moroccan dinner. Overnight in Fes.

Day 3:Fes — Full-Day Medina Tour

After breakfast, meet your local guide for a full day of sightseeing in Fes, one of Morocco’s most important historic and cultural cities. The day is dedicated mainly to exploring Fes el Bali, the ancient walled medina and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Enter through the famous Bab Bou Jeloud, or Blue Gate, and begin exploring the maze of narrow streets filled with traditional bakeries, spice shops, souks, artisan workshops, historic buildings, and lively local activity.

Continue toward the Al Quaraouiyine Mosque and University, one of the most historically significant centers of learning in the Islamic world. Your guide will explain its history and importance from the surrounding streets, as access to the religious interior may be restricted. You will also visit the famous Chouara Tanneries, where traditional leather is still processed and dyed using centuries-old techniques.

Throughout the day, you will discover Fes’s traditional craftsmanship, including ceramics, leather, metalwork, textiles, and wood carving. Depending on your interests and available time, the tour can also include historic madrasas, fountains, artisan quarters, and other important landmarks within the medina. In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to shop, take photographs, or relax at a traditional Moroccan café before returning to your riad for the evening.

Day 4: Fes → Middle Atlas Mountains → Merzouga Desert

After an early breakfast, we leave Fes and begin our journey south toward the Sahara Desert. Our first stop is Ifrane, a charming mountain town known for its alpine-style architecture, clean streets, and cool climate.

We then continue toward the Azrou cedar forest, where you may have the chance to see Barbary macaques living among the ancient cedar trees. From Azrou, the road continues through the Middle Atlas Mountains toward Midelt, a town surrounded by impressive mountain scenery and known for its apple production. After a lunch stop, we continue south through increasingly arid landscapes until reaching the spectacular Ziz Valley.

Along the way, we can stop at viewpoints overlooking the valley, where green palm groves and villages contrast dramatically with the surrounding rocky landscape. We continue through Erfoud toward Merzouga, arriving in the desert region in the late afternoon. Depending on the season and arrival time, you will begin your camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Riding across the golden sand as the sun sets is one of the highlights of the journey.

You will arrive at your desert camp, where you can settle into your tent before enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner. The evening is usually spent around the campfire with traditional Amazigh music, followed by time to relax beneath the spectacular desert sky. Overnight in a Sahara desert camp.

Day 5:Sahara Sunrise → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley

Wake up early to experience the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. As the first light reaches the desert, the colors of the sand change beautifully, creating a memorable start to the day.

After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4, depending on your camp arrangement, and continue west toward the dramatic landscapes of southern Morocco. Our journey takes us through desert towns and traditional villages before reaching Tinghir and the spectacular Todra Gorge.

Here, towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of the narrow valley, creating one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Morocco. Take time to walk through the gorge, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and take photographs of the enormous rock walls. After visiting Todra Gorge, we continue toward the Dades Valley, passing palm groves, Berber villages, and unusual rock formations along the way.

We arrive at your hotel or guesthouse in the Dades Valley in the late afternoon. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a short walk around the area or simply relax while taking in the beautiful mountain scenery. Overnight in the Dades Valley.

Day 6: Dades Valley → Valley of Roses → Skoura → Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Marrakech

After breakfast, we continue our journey west through some of southern Morocco’s most beautiful landscapes. We travel through the Valley of Roses, an agricultural region famous for its rose cultivation and traditional rose products.

During the flowering season, the valley is particularly beautiful, and you may have the opportunity to stop at a local cooperative or village. We then continue toward the Skoura Palm Oasis, a beautiful landscape of palm groves, traditional villages, and historic earthen kasbahs. From Skoura, we continue to Ouarzazate, often known as the gateway to the Sahara and famous for its connection to Morocco’s film industry.

From Ouarzazate, we drive to Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous historic fortified villages. We explore the narrow paths and earthen buildings of this remarkable ksar and walk to a higher point for panoramic views over the surrounding landscape.

After the visit, we continue toward the High Atlas Mountains and cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of Morocco’s major mountain routes. The road offers impressive views of mountain peaks, valleys, and traditional villages. We then descend toward Marrakech, arriving in the evening. After checking into your riad or hotel, you can enjoy your final evening in Morocco’s famous Red City.

Day 7: Full Day In Marrakech — Medina, Souks, Jemaa el-Fna, Bahia Palace

After breakfast, enjoy your final day in Marrakech at your own pace, depending on your departure time. You can explore the historic medina, wander through the colorful souks, and visit the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the heart of Marrakech’s old city.

If time allows, you may also visit attractions such as the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Mosque and gardens, the Saadian Tombs, or the Majorelle Garden. This final day is also a great opportunity to enjoy a traditional Moroccan breakfast or mint tea, purchase last-minute souvenirs, or simply relax at your riad.

At the scheduled time, your driver will transfer you to Marrakech Menara Airport or to your next destination, marking the end of your 7-day journey from Casablanca through Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara Desert, and southern Morocco to Marrakech.

This tour covered everything we wanted to see in Morocco without us having to plan a thing.

From the moment we were picked up in Casablanca, everything felt well organized and easy. Chefchaouen was absolutely breathtaking, and we loved spending time walking through the blue-painted streets and discovering little shops and cafés. Fes was another highlight, especially the old medina and the local guide who helped us understand the history behind the places we were visiting. The journey through the mountains and into the desert was completely different from anything we had experienced before. Spending the night in Merzouga, riding camels into the dunes, and watching the sunset over the Sahara was unforgettable. We also loved Ait Ben Haddou and the landscapes along the way to Marrakech. It was a fantastic way to see Morocco without having to worry about organizing transportation or hotels ourselves.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Michael. ( USA )

Seven days was the perfect amount of time for our trip.

We were able to experience so many different sides of Morocco, from the blue streets of Chefchaouen and the historic medina of Fes to the mountains, desert, and Marrakech. Our guide was very flexible and adjusted the pace when we wanted to spend more time exploring Fes, which made the experience feel much more personal. The drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains was beautiful, with plenty of interesting scenery and stops along the way. Arriving in Merzouga and seeing the Sahara dunes for the first time was one of the most memorable moments of the trip. The desert camp was comfortable, the food was delicious, and watching the sunset and sunrise over the dunes was incredible. Even though there are some long driving days, the changing landscapes and stops along the route made the journey part of the experience.

We booked this private tour for our family of four, and it worked out perfectly for us.

Having a private vehicle meant we could travel at our own pace and take breaks whenever the kids needed them. They absolutely loved Chefchaouen and had a great time exploring the blue streets and taking photographs. The camel trek in Merzouga was another huge hit, and watching the sunset over the dunes together was a special family memory. Our driver was patient, friendly, and knowledgeable throughout the entire journey. He answered all our questions, recommended good places to stop for food and photographs, and was very helpful whenever we needed anything. We especially appreciated how smoothly everything was organized, from the accommodations to the desert camp and transfers. The trip gave us a wonderful combination of culture, history, mountains, and adventure, and it was a great introduction to Morocco for our family.
