Your 4-day desert adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
We leave the city behind and travel south toward the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n'Tichka Pass at an altitude of around 2,260 metres.
Along the way, we make several stops at scenic viewpoints where you can admire the dramatic mountain landscapes and take photographs.
The road winds through traditional Amazigh villages, terraced fields, and valleys, offering a glimpse into rural Moroccan life. After crossing the mountains, we continue toward the historic fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco's most famous kasbahs and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Here, you will have time to explore the narrow streets and traditional earthen buildings while learning about the history and architecture of this remarkable ksar.
After the visit, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing toward Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert and for its long connection with the film industry.
We then drive through the beautiful Skoura Palm Oasis, surrounded by palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and small villages, before continuing into the spectacular Dades Valley.
By late afternoon, we arrive at your hotel or traditional guesthouse, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and unique rock formations. After check-in, you can relax and enjoy dinner before spending the night in the Dades Valley.
After breakfast, we leave the Dades Valley and continue toward the impressive Todra Gorge.
Along the way, we enjoy the changing scenery of the valley, passing through small Amazigh villages, green oases, and beautiful landscapes.
We reach Tinghir, an oasis town surrounded by palm groves and mountains, before continuing to the spectacular Todra Gorge.
The towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of the narrow canyon, making this one of the most impressive natural attractions in southeastern Morocco.
You will have time to walk through the gorge, enjoy the scenery, and take photographs before continuing the journey.
After lunch, we travel through the changing landscapes of the region toward Erfoud, an area famous for fossils and dates, and then continue through Rissani toward Merzouga.
As we approach the Sahara, the landscape becomes increasingly dry and the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear on the horizon. In the late afternoon, you will begin your camel trek into the desert, riding across the dunes while watching the colors of the Sahara change as the sun sets.
After reaching your desert camp, you will be welcomed with traditional Moroccan mint tea before enjoying a delicious dinner. The evening is spent around the campfire listening to traditional Amazigh music and drums, with time to relax and admire the stars of the desert.
You will spend the night in a traditional or luxury desert camp among the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Wake up early to experience the magical sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. From the top of a nearby dune, you can watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the golden Sahara, creating beautiful colors and shadows across the landscape. After sunrise, return to the camp for breakfast and some time to freshen up before leaving the desert.
Depending on the arrangements, you can return to Merzouga by camel or by 4x4 vehicle. We then begin our journey north, leaving the Sahara behind and traveling toward the spectacular Ziz Valley. As we continue, the landscape changes from desert dunes to rocky plateaus, deep gorges, and lush palm-filled oases.
We stop at scenic viewpoints overlooking the Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees create a striking contrast with the surrounding dry mountains. We then continue toward Midelt, a mountain town located between the High Atlas and Middle Atlas ranges, where we stop for lunch.
After lunch, the journey continues into the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the scenery becomes greener and the climate cooler. The road passes through mountain landscapes, forests, and small villages before reaching the area of Midelt, Azrou, or Ifrane, depending on the accommodation selected. After checking into your hotel, you can relax and enjoy dinner before spending the night in the peaceful Middle Atlas region

The forest is home to ancient cedar trees and Barbary macaques, which can sometimes be seen among the trees.
We take time to enjoy a short walk, appreciate the peaceful surroundings, and take photographs before continuing toward Ifrane. Known for its distinctive architecture, clean streets, gardens, and cool mountain climate, Ifrane has a very different atmosphere from the desert regions visited during the previous days.
We stop in the town for a short break and have an opportunity to see its famous stone lion and enjoy a coffee or tea. From Ifrane, we continue our final drive toward Fes, passing through the changing landscapes of the Middle Atlas and the agricultural plains surrounding the city.

The extra day made a huge difference to the whole experience. We never felt rushed, and there was plenty of time to enjoy each stop along the way. Todra Gorge was definitely one of the highlights for us the huge cliffs and dramatic scenery were even more impressive in person. We also loved taking our time through the Dades Valley and stopping at different viewpoints for photos. The journey felt very well organized, but we still had enough flexibility to enjoy places at our own pace. Having four days instead of trying to fit everything into a shorter trip made the desert experience much more relaxed and enjoyable. Highly recommended if you want to see more of Morocco without spending the whole trip in the car.

This was a fantastic way to experience the Moroccan landscape, especially if you want a good balance between driving and sightseeing. There are quite a few hours on the road, but the scenery changes so much throughout the journey that it never felt repetitive. We particularly enjoyed the Dades Valley and were glad that we stayed there overnight instead of trying to continue directly to the desert. It gave us time to relax after the first day's drive and enjoy the spectacular scenery around the valley. The Todra Gorge was another highlight, and arriving in Merzouga for the camel ride and desert camp was an unforgettable experience. Overall, the itinerary was well paced and included a great variety of landscapes, from the mountains and valleys to the Sahara.

We absolutely loved that the tour ended in Fes rather than returning all the way to Marrakech. It made the itinerary feel much more practical and allowed us to experience a completely different part of Morocco. Our guide was excellent throughout the journey — very knowledgeable about the history, culture, landscapes, and local traditions, and always happy to answer our questions. He was also very flexible when we wanted to spend a little more time at certain places or stop for photos. The combination of the Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou, the gorges, Sahara desert, and finally Fes made this feel like a real journey through Morocco rather than simply a desert excursion. The organization was smooth from beginning to end, and we would definitely recommend this route.
