As a private journey, this 3 days desert tour from marrakech to fes is designed to fit the maximum amount of Morocco's diversity into a short amount of time, without feeling rushed. From the moment you leave Marrakech, the landscape begins to change: the road climbs into the High Atlas, drops into palm-filled valleys, and eventually opens onto the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Each day brings a different scenery, so even though the tour is short, it never feels repetitive.
Because this Marrakech to Fes 3 Days tour is fully private, every detail is arranged around you rather than a fixed group schedule. You travel in your own air-conditioned vehicle with a dedicated driver and guide, who can adjust the pace, extend a stop you're enjoying, or add a detour on request. This flexibility is especially valuable on a route that covers this much ground, where travelers often have different priorities, whether that's more time at Ait Ben Haddou, a longer stay at the desert camp, or an unhurried morning in the Middle Atlas.
The heart of this private Marrakech to Fes 3 Days Desert Tour is, of course, the Sahara itself: a camel trek into the dunes at sunset, a night in a traditional or luxury desert camp under a sky full of stars, and an early sunrise over Erg Chebbi the next morning. From there, the journey continues north through the Ziz Valley and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, arriving in Fes with a real sense of having crossed the country rather than simply visited a single destination.
Your 3-day desert adventure begins in the morning with a pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. You will leave the city behind and drive toward the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass at around 2,260 meters above sea level.
Along the way, we will make several stops at scenic viewpoints where you can enjoy the mountain landscapes, take photographs, and see traditional Amazigh villages built into the mountains.
The drive itself is part of the experience, with changing scenery from the busy streets of Marrakech to green valleys, rocky mountains, and small villages. After crossing the Atlas Mountains, you will continue toward the historic village of Aït Ben Haddou. This beautiful fortified ksar is one of Morocco’s most famous landmarks and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will have time to walk through its narrow streets, discover the traditional earthen buildings, and enjoy the panoramic views from the higher part of the village.
After the visit, we continue to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara. Here you can stop for lunch and, depending on the available time, visit the famous Kasbah Taourirt or enjoy a short visit around the city.In the afternoon, the journey continues through the beautiful landscapes of southern Morocco.
You will pass through the Skoura palm oasis and the Valley of Roses, an area known for its rose fields and traditional villages. We then continue toward the Dades Valley, where the scenery becomes more dramatic with red rock formations, green palm trees, and winding roads through the mountains.
Before reaching your accommodation, we can stop at some of the most beautiful viewpoints in the valley, including the famous winding road overlooking the Dades Gorge. In the evening, you will check into your hotel or traditional kasbah, enjoy a Moroccan dinner, and spend the night in the Dades Valley.
After breakfast, you will continue your journey through the fascinating landscapes of the eastern part of Morocco. We leave the Dades Valley and drive toward Tinghir, a beautiful oasis surrounded by mountains and palm groves. From there, we continue to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where enormous limestone cliffs rise on both sides of the valley.
You will have time to walk through the gorge, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, take photographs, and experience one of the most impressive natural landscapes in southern Morocco.
After visiting Todra Gorges, we continue toward Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils, dates, and traditional desert products. Along the way, you will see the landscape gradually change from mountain valleys to the dry, rocky scenery of the pre-Sahara. We then continue to Rissani, an important historic town and former trading center.
If the timing allows, you can explore part of the local market and see traditional Moroccan life before continuing toward Merzouga. As we approach Merzouga, you will get your first views of the spectacular golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. In the afternoon, you will begin your camel experience, riding through the dunes while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara.
You will stop in the dunes to watch the sunset and take photographs before continuing to your desert camp. Once at the camp, you will have time to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
In the evening, a traditional Moroccan dinner will be served, followed by Amazigh music around the campfire. You can spend the rest of the evening enjoying the silence of the desert and looking at the stars before spending the night in your desert camp.
On the final day of your journey, continue through the scenic landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where lush forests, rolling hills, and picturesque mountain villages provide a beautiful contrast to the desert landscapes visited earlier in the tour.Your first stop is Ifrane, a charming mountain town known for its clean streets, European-style architecture, red-tiled roofs, and cool alpine climate.
Often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” Ifrane sits at a high elevation and is surrounded by forests and mountain scenery. Take some time to explore the town, enjoy a relaxing walk through its pleasant streets, and admire the distinctive architecture and peaceful atmosphere. From Ifrane, continue into the surrounding cedar forests toward Azrou, one of the most scenic areas of the Middle Atlas.
The region is famous for its ancient Atlas cedar trees and is home to the Barbary macaque, Morocco’s native wild monkey species. During a stop in the forest, keep an eye out for these playful animals as they move through the trees and around the forest floor in their natural environment. The peaceful woodland setting also offers a chance to stretch your legs, take photographs, and enjoy the fresh mountain air. After exploring the cedar forest, begin your descent from the Middle Atlas toward Fes.
As the landscape gradually changes from mountain forests to rolling countryside and agricultural plains, enjoy the final views of the Atlas region and reflect on the highlights of your Moroccan adventure.
Upon arrival in Fes, your tour comes to an end with a convenient drop-off at your hotel or riad in or around the historic medina. From here, you can settle in and continue exploring the fascinating city of Fes at your own pace, with its centuries-old architecture, winding streets, traditional souks, and rich cultural heritage.

Perfect way to see both cities without wasting a day driving back to Marrakech.
”This was such a well-planned itinerary and a great option for anyone who wants to experience the desert while continuing on to Fes. We loved not having to backtrack all the way to Marrakech, which would have taken up so much valuable time. The journey through the Middle Atlas on the final day was an unexpected highlight. Ifrane was completely different from what we had seen elsewhere in Morocco, and the cedar forests around Azrou were beautiful. We were lucky enough to see the Barbary macaques as well. The whole trip felt varied and well paced, with a great mix of scenery, cultural experiences, and time in the desert.

Our driver was excellent and made the journey feel like part of the adventure.
Our driver was one of the highlights of the trip. He was professional, friendly, and very flexible whenever we wanted to stop for photos or take a little extra time to enjoy the scenery. Waking up early to watch the sunrise over the Sahara dunes was an unforgettable experience, and then continuing the journey toward Fes made the whole trip feel like a real adventure across Morocco rather than simply a transfer between destinations. The landscapes changed so dramatically along the way, from the desert to the mountains and forests of the Middle Atlas. It was a long journey, but there was always something interesting to see.

Long days of driving, but absolutely worth it for the route and convenience.
There are definitely some long driving days on this tour, so it is worth being prepared for that, but for us the itinerary was completely worth it. The biggest advantage was being able to finish in Fes instead of returning to Marrakech. It saved us a full day of backtracking and meant we could continue with the next part of our Morocco trip straight away. We really enjoyed watching the scenery change throughout the journey, especially as we left the desert behind and entered the Middle Atlas. The stops along the way also helped break up the drive and gave us plenty of opportunities to take photos and explore.
